Research after research (Sliver Lecture Series, IoA)

In December of 2021, Jeremy delivered a talk titled “Research after Research” as part of the Sliver lecture series at the Institute of Architecture in the University of Applied Arts Vienna.

In this lecture, Jeremy applied some of the ideas from the main research project to issues around architectural and academic research. He argues that the emergency destabilises the tenets and methods of the modern project, and that academic research as we know is based on these modern conditions and norms. So what happens to research when the climate emergency demands new ways of thinking and acting?

“Research is defined as a process of investigation leading to new insights, effectively shared”

“For progress today really does mean simply the prevention and avoidance of total catastrophe.”

– Theodor W. Adorno

“Will the future define growth as irresponsible, even criminal?”

– Isabelle Stengers
